I am a revolutionary. Obviously, revolutions cannot be accomplished by a lone individual. Not anywhere. And in the center or vicious world imperialism, The United States of Dictatorship America (USA), that goes double.


I am a Marxist-Leninist. I sought out the Communist Party USA.


Assigned to occasionally meet me for lunch was a “heroine” of the Boston-area “left” “Anne Burlak Timpson “(May 24, 1911 – July 9, 2002), a leading Massachusetts Communist Party USA leader.”

The flattering “official” CIA description: Burlak Timpson “became a central figure in the strikes that shook the Rhode Island textile industry in the early 1930s. Ann Burlak fought for workers' right to collective bargaining, overtime pay, and wage increases. She was arrested multiple times for her activism and faced with at least one (unsuccessful) attempt to deport her. When Franklin Roosevelt was elected president... she turned her attention to the organization of the unemployed and she would twice run as a Communist for elected office in Rhode Island.” (Ann Burlak, Wikipedia)

“Labeled 'the Red Flame' for her passionate mill-gate speeches during New England’s massive textile strikes of the 1930s, Anne was 'fearless in defense of working people'. The nickname, widely used by the press, was meant as an insult, but Anne took it as a badge of honor and 'thousands of mill workers called her The Red Flame with affection'.

“She was a leading spokesperson for the Communist Party in New England, and was called before a number of governmental committees investigating 'un-American activities.' In 1956, she was one of the last American Communists arrested under the infamous Smith Act, charged with 'conspiracy to advocate' the overthrow of the US government. Note the fake government “persecution” of Burlak Timpson. This is a favorite tactic of the US secret political police, aimed at establishing the credibility of their filthy agents. In fact, “Red Flame” Burlak Timpson lived an easy and long life in her beloved United States of Dictatorship America. Burlak Timpson, like ALL the “Communist Party” “leaders” and members of New England (and not only New England! - I was the lone and lonely exception) - were reactionary and malicious minions of the American secret political police.

The real politics of the US are extremely deceptive and dangerous. I was just as naive as the next fellow.

Burlak-Timpson never asked me to join the CPUSA. I had to ask her. The next time we met, Anne said my request had been approved and that a special “club” had been assembled to accept and work with me.

“Mark Solomon is Prof. Emeritus of History at Simmons College and Associate of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard University. (The Continuing Struggle for a Substantive Democracy: From the Atlantic Revolutions to Today, Dec. 2017)”


“Solomon has been a long-time activist in peace and justice movements. He was among the founders of Citizens for Participation in Political Action (CPPAX) in Massachusetts. He held the post as national chairperson of the U.S. Peace Council, and a Presidential Committee member of the World Peace Council. Solomon was not a public communist, but widely recognized as such in the Boston area-wide “movement” and beyond. To postulate that the FBI would not have known about his CP membership is patently absurd.


No problem! Again the American university system came to the “rescue” of FBI stooges, awarding Solomon with a full professorship. And an easy, financially secure and long life.

Chinese tourists in United States told to beware of shootings, expensive medical care

Embassy also reminds holidaymakers that border inspection officials have the right to search them

Chinese tourists planning a trip to America have been warned of “frequent shootings” and the high cost of medical care in a notice by China’s embassy in the US.

“Social security in the States is not satisfactory. Shootings, robbery, theft happens frequently,” the statement said.

“Be aware of suspicious people around you and avoid going out alone at night.”

The notice from the embassy came as a reminder to Chinese tourists amid growing concerns of increased checks on visitors, including customs officials poring over people’s phones.

A US customs agency spokesman said last year that border officials inspected 4,444 cellphones and 320 other electronic devices in 2015, which amounts to about one check for every 830 of the 383 million people who visited the US that year. In 2016, officials checked 23,000 electronic devices.

The Chinese embassy statement also reminded tourists that medical treatment can be expensive in the US, and that anyone planning a trip should ensure they have a suitable health insurance policy.

In the Fall of 1965 I arrived to set up residence in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Fink anti-HUAC committee personage Sylvia Crane * (who had married into political police-operative John Crane's reputed fortune) set me up with a rather elite group of Boston-area notables to form the New England/Massachusetts Committee to Abolish HUAC.


A pseudo liberal-left united front to fight political repression in America. Included were:


## Mark De Wolfe Howe, “a member of the (Harvard) Law School faculty since 1946, was Charles Warren Professor of American Legal History. He was stricken at his Cambridge home during the night by a coronary occlusion, and died... (Mark De Wolfe Howe Dies; Lawyer, Historian Was 60, The Harvard Crimson March 1, 1967)

## Vern Countryman, who formally became chairman of the local committee. “Vernon ("Vern") Countryman (May 13, 1917 – May 2, 1999), was a professor at Harvard Law School and social critic who was an expert on bankruptcy and commercial law... ## Robert Frederick Drinan, S.J. (November 15, 1920 – January 28, 2007) “was a Roman Catholic Jesuit priest, lawyer, human rights activist, and Democratic U.S. Representative from Massachusetts. With Frank Wilkinson I met another “distinguished” law professor, Thomas Irwin Emerson, who “was a noted legal scholar and civil rights and civil liberties advocate... Emerson served on the Yale law faculty from 1946 to 1976; in 1955 he was named the Lines Professor of Law. In addition, there was the not-so-proper:

Harvey O'Connor (29 March 1897 – 29 August 1987), the ostensible chairman of the National Committee to Abolish HUAC, who lived in Rhode Island and “was an American radical journalist, newspaper editor, author, and political activist. All of the above were “fighting” HUAC at the behest of the US secret political police. Lending their names and some effort to participation in another fake movement in America. And thereby contributing to the appearance of a “democratic” USA and aiming at flushing out honest people who were willing to speak out against the system.

By the late 1960s, HUAC had lost its effectiveness and was more of a US government negative than a positive. HUAC was on its way out. With the active collaboration of the above FBI-directed “luminaries,” I appeared to be the driving force in getting hundreds of US law school professors and then Catholic clergy to publicly call for the abolition of HUAC. In fact, all of this was pre-ordained by the American political police.

Status, professorship, priesthood, etc. in America do not change the basic equation. In fact, the “notables” listed above achieved their relatively privileged status by being willing accomplices of United States imperialism. Which included apparent “civil liberties” leanings.

At the time, I was unaware of all of this reality.

Our Institutions Are Failing

The mainstream media and its well-paid army of "authorities" / pundits would have us believe the decline in our collective trust in our institutions is the result of fake news, i.e. false narratives and data presented as factual.

This mainstream narrative is itself false: our institutions are failing, and the cause isn't fake news or Russian hacking--the cause is insider plundering and collusion.

The citizenry's trust in institutions is declining because the failure of institutions is undeniably the fabric of everyday life in America.

When was the last time you heard the top management of a university system take responsibility for the unprecedented rise in the cost of tuition and textbooks? The short answer is "never."

The same can be said of every other cartel plundering the nation: healthcare (i.e. sickcare, because profits swell from managing chronic illness, not from advancing health); the Big Pharma cartel; the military-industrial complex; banking; student loans; the governance-lobbying cartels; the war-on-drugs gulag, the FBI and so on in an endless profusion of insiders whose self-serving plunder and gross incompetence rarely generates consequences (such as being fired or indicted).

Schools fail, municipal agencies fail, oversight agencies fail, state agencies fail, and the public feels powerless to effect any systemic change.

Changing the elected officials who are the citizens' representatives does nothing to rid the system of incompetence or enforce accountability and transparency; the insider elites have wired the system to avoid responsibility and maintain their institutionalized skims regardless of who is in elected office.

The list of gross institutional incompetence is truly endless in America.

To fight HUAC...


It was 1965, my final year at UW Madison. I had formed the “Contemporary Affairs Forum” to host speakers of a left and progressive bent. I had also been elected as the graduate student representative on the UW Student Council (less than a hundred of the many thousands of graduate students actually voted). I spoke at anti-war rallies and was permitted to write occasional commentaries for the student newspaper, The Daily Cardinal.


With the secret political police go-ahead, Robert Burris had arranged for me to do post-doctoral research at the University of Chicago with Dr. Lawrence Bogorad.


The FBI was letting me feel my oats. Only temporarily. The Gestapo had future plans for me.


Then Frank Wilkinson of anti-HUAC fame (see post 12 of this series) came to Madison to speak. I had not met him in San Francisco in 1960, but of course knew about him. After his talk, Frank approached me to say that he had learned about my interest in defeating HUAC. The National Committee to Abolish HUAC, of which he was Executive Director, was set to open an office in New England and Frank flattered me, saying that I was the only person for the job.

True, HUAC was no longer the force it had been a few years back. Senator Joe McCarthy was discredited and dead; the San Francisco police riot (see post 12) had damaged HUAC's reputation; and most importantly, with the rise of the civil rights and anti-Vietnam war movements, anti-communism no longer had its earlier unquestioned hold on the country.


Frank Wilkinson...

The “official” US political police description* of Frank Wilkinson is impressive:

“Frank Wilkinson (August 16, 1914 – January 2, 2006) was an American civil liberties activist...

“Wilkinson was called before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) twice, once in 1956 in Los Angeles, and again in 1958 in Atlanta. Both times he chose to plead the First Amendment (rather than the Fifth). In Atlanta he was joined in pleading the First by Carl Braden, a civil rights activist. They both were cited for contempt of Congress in a vote of 435-0 for Frank and 434-1 for Carl. Their case went all the way up to the Supreme Court (see Wilkinson v. United States). In a 5-4 decision, the court upheld Wilkinson's conviction (they refused to hear Braden's case, so the effect was to uphold his conviction as well).

“While the case was wending its way through the courts, Wilkinson toured the country speaking out against HUAC and organizing in cities where HUAC held hearings. In 1960, he helped form the National Committee to Abolish HUAC, which evolved into the National Committee Against Repressive Legislation, the organization he led until his death.

“On May 1, 1961, Frank and Carl Braden entered federal prison. After his release, Wilkinson continued his work to Abolish the House Un-American Activities Committee, traveling the country, speaking at campuses and meetings to build opposition to HUAC. During this time he continued to be closely monitored by the FBI.

“In 1986, with the help of attorneys from the American Civil Liberties Union, Wilkinson sued for his FBI file. Eventually the FBI was forced to release 132,000 pages of files** which included Wilkinson's reports on his speaking engagements and travel, as well as an apparent plot to assassinate him.

“Because of his resistance to political repression, Wilkinson received the Roger Baldwin Medal of Liberty; and the American Civil Liberties Union Eason Monroe Courageous Advocate Award, the Earl Warren Civil Liberties Award, and the 1997 National Lawyers’ Guild Legal Worker of the Year. An impressive story. Which conveniently hides the fact that Frank Wilkinson himself was a foul FBI fake, another one of the army of phony “activists” in the United States who maliciously “substitute” for real progressive political movement.

According to Frank, he served about 9 months in federal prison; I have no reason to doubt the veracity of this claim. Nine months is not a long incarceration and it was a maneuver to falsely establish Wilkinson as a leftist “hero.”

From that point on, Frank lived well, even very well. He and his second wife Donna (also a FBI stooge) resided in an expensive, split-level home in Los Angeles. Frank never was short of money or alcohol (he constantly drank to excess); he traveled extensively; Wilkinson enjoyed his contrived status and easy life style.

In 1965, I knew none of the above reality – about Wilkinson, about his Committee, about the massive reality of FBI-generated fake “movements.” I had long felt the urge to devote myself to political change, and becoming active in the National Committee to Abolish HUAC seemed the best way to become part of what I (naively) thought was a progressive movement in the United States of Dictatorial America.

Climate change: 'Apocalyptic threat': dire climate report raises fears for California's future
Statewide assessment, which comes amid summer of extreme wildfires, warns of deadly cost if climate change is not stopped

California’s summer of deadly wildfires and dangerous heatwaves will soon be the new normal if nothing is done to stop climate change, a report released on Monday warns.

City heatwaves could lead to two to three times as many deaths by 2050, the report says. By 2100, without a reduction in emissions, the state could see a 77% increase in the average area burned by wildfires. The report also warns of erosion of up to 67% of its famous coastline, up to an 8.8F rise in average maximum temperatures, and billions of dollars in damages.

Rising temperatures could lead to up to 11,300 additional deaths in 2050, the report says, and the overall number of days marked by extreme heat will “increase exponentially in many areas”.

The effects of those extreme heat days will probably weigh most heavily on the state’s most vulnerable residents, including the more than 100,000 people who are homeless in California, many of whom live on the streets without reliable access to fans, air conditioners, or running water.

“The 2006 heatwave killed over 600 people, resulted in 16,000 emergency department visits, and led to nearly $5.4bn in damages,” the assessment reports. “The human cost of these events is already immense, but research suggests that mortality risk for those 65 or older could increase tenfold by the 2090s because of climate change.”


Cooling mechanisms such as air conditioners can help mitigate the effects of intense heatwaves, but increased electrical consumption can also drive up the emissions responsible for climate change in the first place. And the double threat of wildfires and increased energy consumption can endanger a power grid vital in a crisis.

As climate change progresses overall rainfall would probably remain the same, but it would come in the form of extreme storms followed by longer periods without rain. There will be two consequences: one is more potentially extreme floods, and the other is problems with drought management.

Intense rainfall after a season of wildfires could also mean more landslides similar to the deadly mudslides in Santa Barbara earlier this year. More rain coming in short bursts was likely to aggravate water management problems in a state already stricken by drought. And drought areas – including much of California – have been shown to warm faster than others.

US Budget Deficit Hits $607 Billion In 9 Months, As Spending On Interest Explodes

The US is starting to admit that it has a spending problem.

According to the latest Monthly Treasury Statement, in June, the US collected $316BN in receipts - - a drop of 6.6% from the $338.7BN collected last June... even as Federal spending also dipped, down 8.8% from $428.9BN last June to $391.1BN last month.

The June deficit brought the cumulative 2018F budget deficit to over $607BN during the first nine month of the fiscal year, up 16% over the past year; as a reminder the deficit is expect to increase further amid the tax and spending measures, and rise above $1 trillion.


An even bigger problem is what happens to not only the US debt, which recently surpassed $21 trillion, but to the interest on that debt, in a time of rising interest rates. US government Interest Payments are already rising rapidly, and just hit an all time high in Q1 2018.

Interest costs are increasing due to three factors: an increase in the amount of outstanding debt, higher interest rates and higher inflation. The bigger question is with short-term rates still in the mid-1% range, what happens when they reach 3% as the Fed's dot plot suggests it will?


As rates blow out, US debt is expected to keep rising, and somehow hit $30 trillion by 2028...
launching a debt crisis in the process.

Madison, Wisconsin – a “hotbed” of phony “radicalism”...


Self-proclaimed “communists,” “revolutionaries” etc. were not a rarity in Madison. What soon became evident is that when it came to practical political work – for instance, organizing against the War in Vietnam which was raging at the time – these “radicals” by and large were nowhere to be seen.

It has been possible to follow up on some of these “r-r-r-revolutionaries.” The astute reader will note that their fortunes markedly differ from mine and that none of them were forced out of the US by the American Gestapo.


The “Communist Party” in Madison...

There were repeated rumors of a Madison club of the Communist Party USA, although I was never asked to join it. Word was that it was headed by Gene Dennis, whom I knew as a (deliberately) lazy and incompetent do-nothing. Strange, I thought at the time, as his late father and namesake had been head of CP USA: “Eugene Dennis became General Secretary of the Communist Party USA after the expulsion of Earl Browder and was a staunch supporter of the Moscow line.” (Eugene Dennis, Wikipedia)


“Eugene Dennis Jr., son of the former general secretary in the American Communist Party, was a longshoreman* for many years and is now a historian.” (‘Red Diaper Babies’ - Children of Communists, AP, May. 23, 1989)


Eugene Dennis, father and son, were/are stooges of the US secret political police.


Another reputed Madison “communist” was another deadbeat, Donald Bluestone:

Yet another known campus “leftist” and reputed Madison “communist” was Jim Hawley. Who also has gone on to bigger and better things: “James P. Hawley is Professor, School of Economics and Business Administration, and Director of the Elfenworks Center for the Study of Fiduciary Capitalism at Saint Mary’s College. He has held the rotating endowed chair, Transamerica Professor of Business Policy and Strategy, two times. He is the author of two books, the first on international banks and the global monetary system, and (as a co-author with Professor Andrew T. Williams) on U.S. pension funds and the ownership of U.S. corporations...” (Network for Sustainable Financial Markets, 2017)


Among other fake Madison “leftists” at the time...


Frank Emspak, the son of the late Julius Emspak, former secretary-treasurer of the “leftist” United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers (UE) of America. “Frank, a retired labor professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, originally founded the WIN program as a project of the University’s School of Workers.” (laborpress.org/workers-independent-news-off-the-air)

Clark Kissinger retains his FBI-authorized pseudo-left bona fides:
“C. Clark Kissinger (born 1940) was the National Secretary of Students for a Democratic Society in 1964-65. He visited the People's Republic of China twice during the Cultural Revolution, and is a devoted Maoist...

“In 1968, the Chicago Peace Council hired Kissinger to organize a march against the Vietnam War on April 27. Later in the year, he helped organize demonstrations against the Democratic Party National Convention, and testified at the trial of the Chicago Seven.

“In the early 1970s, Kissinger was a founder and national officer of the US China Peoples Friendship Association.

“In 2002, Kissinger was the coordinator of the Not In Our Name statement of conscience against the impending war on Iraq... Subsequently, he was also the convener of the International Commission of Inquiry on Crimes Against Humanity Committed by the Bush Administration. When the commission released its findings, he was quoted as saying 'We want this to be a step in the building of mass resistance to war, to torture, to the destruction of the earth.' **

Kissinger's “radicalism” falls into the realm of FBI-organized “movements,” that we have discussed previously (Part 10 of this series):

US Suicide Rate Surges 30% Since 1999

Rates of suicide have climbed by 30% since 1999, with sizable gains seen across age groups and sexes. Furthermore, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that only about half of people who commit suicide have a diagnosed mental health condition like depression - even though depression was once believed to be the primary cause.

"From 1999 to 2015, suicide rates increased among both sexes, all racial/ethnic groups, and all urbanization levels," the CDC researchers wrote in their report.

"Middle-aged adults had the largest number of suicides and a particularly high increase in suicide rates.”

Firearms were the most common killing method, used in nearly half of all suicides, and in 55% of suicides where there was no mental health condition diagnosed.

The problem, doctors say, is that finding mental health treatment for people can be difficult even for those with health insurance. Even for those who can afford treatment, it can be difficult to find the correct approach.

Increases mostly seem to correlate with economic downturns. The fact that the economic downturn hit rural states the hardest - and that's where the biggest increases in suicide rates were found - is hardly a coincidence.

The gibberish of Studies on the Left and the cold shoulder of its Madison “scholars” had little effect on me. I worked hard in the lab, studied diligently, sought female companionship and looked for ways to express my genuine communist and humanitarian convictions.


Sanity article on Vietnam...

I wrote one of the first articles protesting the murderous US policies in Vietnam: “U.S, War in Vietnam” (Sanity, Vol. 1, No.3, 1962). How many honest people actually read my material in this low-circulation and short-lived journal is hard to determine. But not many.


Roommates on the FBI prowl...


For the first two years of my studies in Madison, I lived essentially alone in rooming houses and then a single person apartment. Not a good way to keep detailed tabs on me.


At the start of my third year at UW Madison, I was invited to move in to a spacious but dilapidated apartment at 13 N.Mills with Peter Hepler and Charles Beveridge. They were both graduate students, a couple of years older than me. How could I refuse? The atmosphere was cordial. And I paid the ridiculously low amount of $25 per month for rent.

At the time, I had no idea that the offer for me to move in was based on having roommates who would keep a close watch on me on behalf of the US secret political police.


Both Peter and Charlie have done well in America. Unlike Arnold, no persecution, no harassment, no terror. Beveridge has since “taught social history at the University of Maryland and then joined the staff of the Olmsted Papers Project” (charles e. beveridge - Library of American Landscape History)

Hepler in particular befriended me. Up to the time he got his Ph.D. degree a couple of years later, married and left, I considered him my best friend at UW Madison.

Years later when we (my so-called family and I) lived in Houston, Texas, Peter unexpectedly and unannounced appeared at our home. Meeting the target “accidentally” on purpose and dropping in on him out of the blue are fairly common FBI tactics. The aim: to guage the quarry's spontaneous reactions, his emotional and physical state unfettered by preliminary conscious preparation.

A few months after I moved to the Soviet Union, the CIA-FBI attempted to use my “friendship” with Hepler by sending his daughter to make contact with me in Moscow. With the guidance of the CIA-ass-licking “soviet” KGB, she “found her way” to the All-Union Cancer Center, where I was (with great difficulty) starting to lead a research program. The young woman accosted me in the hallway near my office, but I refused to even acknowledge her. I had presumed that the US Gestapo would likely send “fellow” Americans to establish “intelligence” ties with me.

After Peter and Charlie departed Madison, my new roommate became fellow Green Lanterner Bill Tabb. He was a graduate student in economics who pretended to be a “leftist.” Naive (at the time) Arnold had no idea that Tabb was just another secret police stooge feathering his nest for a future “successful” career: “William K. Tabb took early retirement and is professor emeritus of Economics at Queens College and of Economics, Political Science, and Sociology at the Graduate Center City University of New York.” (qc-econ-ba.academia.edu/WilliamKTabb)

Tabb has no apparent trouble getting his material published. He has written a number of books and articles as a quasi-, half-baked-, pseudo-”marxist” economist.


Love life...

My amorous fortunes took a decided step forward in Madison. As far as I can determine, only one sometime lover slept with me for not entirely loving purposes. That was Donna Zegarowicz (later Fortin), who was in the process of divorcing her husband. A phony “peace” and “civil liberties” activist a few years older than myself, Donna was an uninhibited and stimulating bed partner. Under the premise of “no harm, no foul,” I do not regret our escapades.

Fortin then reportedly became associated with United Cerebral Palsy, in keeping with the FBI also sending in their operatives to non-political, humanitarian organzations, to ensure that no untoward protests arise there either. I have previously noted this principle: “US imperialist finks also populate charitable and humanitarian institutions of American society. The person with a full-time position at a Planned Parenthood outfit, at an organization supporting, for instance, the deaf, the blind, invalid veterans, the Red Cross etc. etc...” (Dictatorship USA – Part 9B)

The other young (at the time) women in my life will remain unnamed.

Conditions of modern prisons — tiny, overcrowded cells, lack of sanitation, infestation, lack of ventilation — make people inside so desperate for respite that they’re sometimes willing to accept even unconscionable deals, like working for little to no money.

It is such an insult to human dignity that it's not acceptable anywhere in this country except in prison, places intent on stripping people of their humanity.

As former inmates, we know what it's like to work for meager pay — for the chance to get out of our cells, use a private bathroom, walk freely. That’s the invidious part of prison labor. It makes you so grateful for tiny slices of humanity that you’re willing to do anything to get them.

Work in prison is rarely voluntary. And inmates who are currently striking against near-slave conditions won't have it easy. Some may be placed in solitary confinement. Their disciplinary records will get marred, and that could be used against them during hearings for discretionary release, like parole.

But they are willing to risk punishment and surrender the small moments of purpose that unjust work can bring for the larger goal of saving their humanity.

The University of Wisconsin Madison was widely considered to be a home for “leftists.”


To a considerable extent because of its “radical” History department. Which included professors such as William Appleman Williams * - “one of the 20th century's most prominent revisionist historians of American diplomacy, who has been called 'the favorite historian of the Middle American New Left'" (William Appleman Williams, Wikipedia), George Mosse - “best known for his studies of Nazism” (George Mosse, Wikipedia) and Harvey Goldberg - “an out gay activist, an anti-Viet Nam War activist and what he would call an "hors du parti" (out of the communist party) socialist” (Harvey Goldberg, Wikipedia).

In fact, honest, genuinely left professors are not allowed on American university campuses#, and the UW History Department simply was a breeding ground for more fake, secret political police-anointed “leftists.”

I did not know this reality when I started my graduate degree work in the Fall of 1960.

I got to know a few of our “Studies on the Left” heroes, but they, like the Slate “lefties” at UC Berkeley (see post 10 of this series), were a decidedly insular bunch and needed no “outsiders” to fill out their ranks. Strange.

Actually, not strange. After all, they were not “left” at all, but US secret police stooges filling a niche dictated by the American Gestapo.

The big guru was Marty Sklar. “Sklar was to the New Left what Chauncey Wright was to the Metaphysical Club at Harvard in the nineteenth century: a mercurial and electrifying thinker, and an inspiration to a coterie of friends and colleagues...” (Vanishing Act, The Nation Oct. 15, 2014). Like so many phony pseudo-left “theoreticians,” Sklar became a professor, at Northern Illinois University and then at Bucknell University.


I first met James Gilbert on my trip to Cuba (see post 15 of this series). On the way back, Jim invited me to his family's luxurious suburban Chicago home and assured me that he was “prepared to start screaming and shooting people” for the sake of revolution in the US. Radicalism? Fakery! Gilbert also became a big shot in the thoroughly bourgeois academic world: “Founder and Head, University of Maryland, Center for Historical Studies; Chair, Department of History...” (CURRICULUM VITAE, James B. Ronald Radosh is an ultra-reactionary illuminating case, in that he “switched” and showed his real political colors later in life. “Ronald Radosh (born 1937) is an American writer, professor, historian and former Marxist... Radosh was—like his parents—a member of the Communist Party of the United States of America until the Khrushchev thaw. Subsequently, he became a New Left and anti-Vietnam War activist. Later, Radosh turned his attention to Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. After studying declassified FBI documents and interviewing their friends and associates, Radosh concluded that Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were indeed guilty of spying for the KGB... Radosh is currently an adjunct fellow at the Hudson Institute** in Washington, D.C. and professor of history emeritus at the City University of New York, where he was a faculty member at both Queensborough Community College and the Graduate Faculty in History at CUNY.”

I wrote about Tom Hayden in our book Silent Terror: “One of the prominent 'radicals' of the 1960s and a founder of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was Tom Hayden. Hayden recently admitted that during the Vietnam War, he worked with US intelligence during his trips to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam as a well-publicized 'peace activist' (The Nation, Nov. 26, 1986). More recently, the reactionary politics of Hayden and his actress wife Jane Fonda were evident when they fervently supported Israeli aggression in Lebanon. Still posing as a liberal, Hayden criticized the Reagan Administration for not being sufficiently anti-communist. Studies on the Left has long since kicked the bucket. So why discuss it? Opioids Are Responsible For 20% Of Millennial Deaths, "Crisis Will Impact US For Generations

The opioid crisis has become a public health emergency for many Americans, especially for millennials, so much so that one out of every five deaths among young adults is related to opioids,
according to a new study.


The study is called “The Burden of Opioid-Related Mortality in the United States," published in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association). All opiate deaths — which accounts for natural opiates, semi-synthetic/ humanmade opioids, and fully synthetic/ humanmade opioids — have increased a mindboggling 292 percent from 2001 through 2016, with one in every 65 deaths related to opioids by 2016. Men represented 70 percent of all opioid-related deaths by 2016, and the number was astronomically higher for millennials (24 to 35 years of age).


Moreover, it gets worse; the second most impacted group was 15 to 24-year-olds, which suggests, the opioid epidemic is now ripping through Generation Z (born after 1995). In 2016, nearly 12.4 percent of all deaths in this age group were attributed to opioids.

“We are increasingly seeing the devastating impact that early loss of life from opioids is having across the United States,” said Dr. Tara Gomes. This crisis will impact the U.S. for generations,” she added.

“By 2014, Canada and the United States had the highest per capita opioid consumption in the world and deaths related to opioid use have increased dramatically in both countries,” the study stated, which also said, “opioid-related death rates are increasing most quickly among adults aged 25 to 44 years in the United States.”
All in all, the opioid crisis is much worse than we imagined, as millennials are craving vast amounts of opioids. inducing a tidal wave of fatal overdoses.

If The Economy Is So Great, Why Are 78 Million Americans Hustling For Dimes?

Millions of people are working erratic shifts, or scrambling for extra cash

Even though the official unemployment rate has dropped to a 18-year low of 3.8%, the economy is still broken for a great number of Americans who are living a precarious existence - nearly invisible and economically marginalized.

For millions of Americans, the security and income of a steady 9-to-5 job is as far out of reach as it was during the worst of the Great Recession. Some have simply given up on finding any job, discouraged about their employment prospects after so many years out of work.

Many others have resorted to scrambling for a buck here and a buck there, cobbling together a patchwork of irregular hours and side hustles. Most of the economic data glosses over these forgotten Americans. This new army of contingent “workers” don’t seem to fit any of the old classifications.

Some say these so-called “alternative work arrangements” are pervasive, encompassing tens of millions of workers. The Federal Reserve has just published a study that sheds some light on this hidden part of the economy. About 31% of adults participate in what the Fed called “the gig economy” - work done outside of regular employment structures. That looks huge — about 78 million people. Most of these people are working five hours a month or less on their side hustles.

The US Economy is still failing millions.

Millions of people would like a job — or a better job, with higher pay, more reliable hours, more generous benefits, and more humane working conditions.

The economy is still failing for many Americans.

On to Wisconsin...


My early childhood and – later - graduate student days at the University of Wisconsin Madison were the best for me in the United States.


How come I got a quasi-free pass in Madison? By then I was definitely on the hit list of the all-powerful US secret political police. And for them, anything – up to and including outright murder – goes. They are not bound my any Constitution, Bill of Rights, any smattering of human decency, any qualms...


At the time, I was essentially naive about the machinations of the American secret political police and had no clue that they systematically followed and secretly harassed people, subjected them to psychological warfare and killed opponents of the “system.”


I have since learned that during my graduate student days, I was under the methodical, many-sided and comprehensive surveillance of the US secret political police. But in Madison, Wisconsin they did not endeavor to make my life unbearable or even viciously interfere directly. Why such indulgence?


Because the US Gestapo had big potential plans for me. Even at this early stage in my life. Plans which I will elaborate in later posts of this series and which aimed at my eventual murder.


My graduate student days presented the secret police swine an opportunity (a) to see whether love of science might drive me to abandon radical ideas; and (b) if not, to give me enough rope that I would hang myself - to their anticipated benefit.


Thus, there was no need to rush in killing Lockshin. After all, he was hardly dangerous. The police state apparatus in America is so all-embracing and powerful, that such a lone individual hardly posed or poses any tangible threat.


And in the longer stretch, Arnold Lockshin might prove to be a highly, highly useful tool.

As for me, I had graduated Phi Beta Kappa – i.e., with honors – at UC Berkeley and was ready to explore new vistas outside of my home base in the San Francisco Bay Area.


Arriving in Madison, I accepted the offer of Dr. Robert Burris, chairman of the Biochemistry Department, to work in his lab, and my efforts were fruitful as I succeded in publishing the results of both my master's thesis and Ph.D. thesis work in major scientific journals.


“Robert H. Burris (April 13, 1914 – May 11, 2010) was a professor in the Biochemistry Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1961. Research in Burris's lab focused on enzyme reaction mechanisms, and he made significant contributions to our knowledge of nitrogen fixation... He was chairman of the Department of Biochemistry from 1958 to 1970.” (Robert H. Burris, Wikipedia)


I know with certainty now - but had absolutely no idea at the time – that Burris as well as all my lab co-workers were ordered by the FBI to inform on me and to attempt to disabuse me of radical ideas. No utter, overt hostility at the time, but red-baiting was the usual fare from some of my lab partners (Burris himself kept a correct disposition towards me, but later got his digs in).


The “coverage” went beyond the one lab and extended to Biochem faculty members and other fellow grad students. The two secretaries in the Director's office could hardly hide their disdain for me.


Many years later after I arrived in Moscow, Burris was instructed by the FBI to subtly induce me to return to the States (to be discussed in a later post). Had I acceded to this ploy and returned to America, I would long ago have been a dead man. Thanks, Bob.


Roughly 12 years after I left UW, I ran into Burris' son John, who engaged in a dirty FBI-commissioned maneuver against me (too insignificant to detail here):

Prior to his appointment at Beloit in 2000, Dr. Burris served for eight years as director and CEO of the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, Mass. Shortly after arriving in Madison, quite by accident I found a place where I could get most of my meals at a reasonable price: “... the crowded tables, the movie nights and the shepherd’s pie served family style at Green Lantern Eating Cooperative, a fixture in the campus area from 1946 to 1986 and in later years a hub for those with leftist political leanings.” (Radical restaurant reboot, Isthmus Feb. 8, 2018)


For most of years at UW Madison (1960-1965), I ate at the Green Lantern. Real leftists were not to be found there, unfortunately. Fake, pretend “leftists” were fairly abundant.

"This Is Not Going To End Well" - The US Banking System "Has A Huge Problem"

Money manager Peter Schiff says even though Deutsche Bank is the most systemically dangerous bank in the world (according to the IMF), that is just the tip of severe global financial problems.


"Deutsche Bank could be the weak link of a chain. If you remember back to when we had the financial crisis (2008). First, you had the sub-prime mortgages blowing up, and everybody said its contained. I said it’s not contained, it’s just showing up first in the sub-prime market because these are the weakest mortgages.

The entire mortgage market has a problem. The banking system has a huge problem because it’s lived off of the life support of artificially low interest rates. As that is removed, it’s like pulling the plug off of someone who has lived off life support.

Low interest rates saved the banks, Schiff notes:

"Higher interest rates are going to crush the banks. It’s going to destroy the value of their loans and their collateral. It’s going to lead to defaults... All those banks that were too big to fail in 2008 are much bigger now, and it’s going to be a lot more difficult to bail them out.

“This is not going to end well, and I don’t think the Fed is going to be able to save us again. If the stock market gets cut in half again, the Fed is not going to bail you out with another round of rate cuts because the next time the Fed tries to do that, it will destroy the dollar. We will have a dollar crisis and a sovereign debt crisis.

Then the U.S. can’t bail anybody out because it’s the U.S. that is in trouble. It will be the U.S. debt that nobody will want to own. The profits are going to go up in smoke as the market implodes.”

Stooges, stooges, stooges...


I have previously discussed how enormously widespread collaboration is with the United States secret political police.

“The US secret police have at their bidding (a) a professional army of many thousands of full-time stooges, who play-act the role of more-or-less “radical” or “progressive” or whatever opponents of the US political system; and (b) a huge army - numbering in the millions (probably low millions) - of “part-time” accomplices who operate “on call” for specific activities demanded by their secret political police superiors.” (Dictatorship USA – Part 9B)

Of course, I do not know tStooghe exact numbers. But I estimated the number of “full-timer” secret police stooges in the US at 10,000 to 20,000. That is the approximate number of individuals who “earn” the main portion of their personal income as undercover operatives for the FBI, etc.

This estimate may be expanded considerably by including FBI-CIA stooges who “work” full-time in health (e.g., the Red Cross), advocacy (e.g., Planned Parenthood) or even quasi-political (e.g., the ACLU) organizations that receive part of their funding from private sources. (It should be noted in this connection that many “private funds,” such as those “run” by George Soros, are merely hidden conduits for CIA/FBI financing.)

For the “part-timers,” the number is much higher. I estimate that 1.5 to 2% of the adult American population, or about 3 to 4 million people, operate “on call” for the secret political police – joining demonstrations, attending meetings, conniving against a target individual...

However, the situation is even worse than that. The sad truth is that virtually anyone can be recruited/ordered by the FBI, CIA >>> to do something dirty on an ad hoc basis. What American is going to defy the secret political police and refuse to follow their orders? Moreover, there are rewards:

In this new series of posts, I have already discussed the activities of quite a few FBI collaborators. And many more names are going to come up.

The aim, however, is not to spectacularly unearth this or that specific stooge. There are millions of such collaborators, and I could not possibly have known more than a relative handful. Moreover, many of the cretins I discuss are now dead and a huge number of new collaborators have since my time been added to the ranks.

This recounting of my personal history is not particularly aimed at shining the spotlight on particular fink-individuals (although even that can be useful), but (a) to illustrate for the United States how immense collaboration with the FBI is; (b) to elaborate some of the varied ploys used to effect this collaboration; and (c) to demonstrate by example how presumably ordinary people are easily drawn into this dirty work.

The United States of America is NOT a free, democratic society, but a police state dictatorship!

I can assure the reader that nothing I write is guesswork. I have been forced to combat the machinations of the US secret political police – and their underlings in the Soviet Union/Russia – for many decades and I have come to learn the pattern, the methodology and anti-human rationale of these vile deeds. My knowledge has come with considerable travail and personal cost.


If I have the slightest – even less than 1% - doubt of some individual's or organizations's culpability, I do not qualify that individual or entity as a fink.

US inmates stage nationwide prison labor strike over 'modern slavery'

Organisers say prisoners across the country are expected to refuse to work, hold sit-ins and even stage hunger strikes

On Tuesday, America’s vast army of incarcerated men and women – at 2.3 million of them they form by far the largest imprisoned population in the world – will brace itself for what has the potential to be the largest prison strike in US history.

Nineteen days of peaceful protest are planned across the nation, organised largely by prisoners themselves.

Jailhouse Lawyers Speak, a group of prisoners providing mutual help and legal training to other inmates, released an anonymous statement setting out their reasons for calling a protest that carries the risk of substantial penal retaliation.

Fundamentally, it’s a human rights issue,” the statement said. “Prisoners understand they are being treated as animals. Prisons in America are a warzone. Every day prisoners are harmed due to conditions of confinement. For some of us it’s as if we are already dead, so what do we have to lose?”

Organizers have put together a list of 10 national demands. They include improved prison conditions, an end to life without parole sentences or “death by incarceration” as the authors call them, increased funding for rehabilitation services and an end to the disenfranchisement of some 6 million Americans with felony convictions who are barred from voting.

One of the most passionately held demands is an immediate end to imposed labor in return for paltry wages, a widespread practice in US prisons that the strike organisers call a modern form of slavery. More than 800,000 prisoners are daily put to work, in some states compulsorily, in roles such as cleaning, cooking and lawn mowing.

The remuneration can be as woeful in states such as Louisiana as 4 cents an hour.

The idea that such lowly-paid work in a $2bn industry is equivalent to slavery is leant weight by the 13th amendment of the US constitution. Prisoners have no constitutional rights and can be blatantly exploited.

Inmates who join the action know that they face potentially serious consequences. Participants face being placed individually into isolation cells, while past prison strikes have been met with lockdowns of entire institutions. Communications too are certain to be blocked, leading potentially to a blackout of news on the protest.

Retaliatory measures have already started. Prison authorities have moved most of the local strike organisers into solitary confinement wings where they will be unable to communicate with others.

Dictatorship USA – A Personal History – Part 12

Activism begins...


My first actual concrete political activity took place in my senior (fourth and last) year at the University of California when I was 21 years old. Note in my previous posts how intensively the US secret political police pursued me even before I became politically active.

In early 1960, I joined a small picket line several times in front of the Woolworth store in downtown Berkeley - in sympathy with an anti-racist action that took place in the US South:


“On Feb. 1, 1960, four students from all-black North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College walked into a Woolworth five-and-dime with the intention of ordering lunch. But the manager of the Greensboro Woolworth had intentions of his own — to maintain the lunch counter's strict whites-only policy.” (NPR Feb. 1, 2008)


My next excursion into direct politics was to protest the coming of HUAC to the Bay Area:



“The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), a committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, investigated allegations of communist activity in the U.S. during the early years of the Cold War (1945-91). Established in 1938, the committee wielded its subpoena power as a weapon and called citizens to testify in high-profile hearings before Congress. This intimidating atmosphere often produced dramatic but questionable revelations about Communists infiltrating American institutions and subversive actions by well-known citizens. HUAC’s controversial tactics contributed to the fear, distrust and repression that existed during the anticommunist hysteria of the 1950s.” (HUAC - Cold War - HISTORY.com)


“May 12, 1960 marked the beginning of a major protest of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in San Francisco. The committee had scheduled three days of hearings on May 12-14, as part of its regular pattern of public hearings around the country to investigate alleged local subversive activities. In this case, however, Frank Wilkinson and his Citizen Committee to Preserve American Freedoms planned a well-organized protest of the hearings. The result was a major confrontation.

“When protesters arrived at San Francisco City Hall on the first day, May 12th, most were not able to get into the hearing room at San Francisco City Hall because the committee had filled the room with its supporters, who had been given passes. The protesters began chanting “Let us in! Let us in!” Those protesters in the hearing room began singing the national anthem. The publicity brought even more protesters (some estimates said 3,500 people) to City Hall the next day, the 13th. Without warning, the San Francisco police turned fire hoses on the protesters in the rotunda. Some protesters were swept down the City Hall steps by the hoses; others were dragged down, bumping their heads on the steps.

I joined the anti-HUAC picket line in San Francisco on Thursday, May 12. The next day, I had an important exam scheduled, which I thought would be foolhardy to miss. Thus, I missed the violent police action on May 13 (see above). I returned to the substantially larger picket line the next day around San Francisco City Hall.

I did not then meet the aforementioned Frank Wilkinson in 1960, but later he came to play a rather important – duplicitous and malevolent, but ultimately educational – role in my life.

In the late summer of 1960 it was on to the University of Wisconsin Madison for me, where I had been accepted as a graduate student in the Department of Biochemistry.
