The January 2017 “Women's March” - a case study
The day after Donald Trump was inaugurated as US President, massive “pro-women's rights” marches were held in Washington DC and other American cities.

“The march ended up drawing between 440,000 to 500,000 in Washington D.C.” - that is about half a million in the nation's capital – and additional hundreds of thousands elsewhere in the country.
How was such a massive turnout ensured? The patent explanation: “On November 9, 2016, the day after Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, in reaction to Trump's election campaign and political views, Teresa Shook of Hawaii created a Facebook event and invited friends to march on Washington in protest. Similar Facebook pages created by Evvie Harmon, Fontaine Pearson, Bob Bland (a New York fashion designer), Breanne Butler, and others quickly led to thousands of women signing up to march.»
"Planned Parenthood partnered with the march by providing staff and offering knowledge related to planning a large-scale event... Planned Parenthood has received federal funding since 1970." Thus, an organization openly funded by the US government organized a huge demonstration against the US government! What glorious “democracy”!
While a couple of “partner” organizations of the demonstrations, such as the AFL-CIO, have a large membership (although roughly 90% of American workers belong to no trade union!), there is no evidence that this national “trade union” did anything to mobilize their members. Their “partnership” was pure formality. Most of the other “partner” organizations are paper outfits and – like the AFL-CIO leadership – run by stooges of the monstrous and vicious US lie, spy, criminal, provocation, subversion and regime change, terror, drug-runnning, torture, war and mass murder political police state apparatus.
The speakers at the Washington democration included long-time US political police finks such as
Goria Steinem, Angeles Davis, Michael Moore and others of the same ilk.
Thus organizations led by the US secret political police and individual and organizational accomplices of the same US political police ran massive America-wide demonstrations against the government of the US secret political police. Wow!

Such massive demonstations - given enormous publicity by the US imperialist mass media machine - could never have taken place by someone “creating a Facebook event.” From far-off Hawaii, or all places!
Phony “partner” organizations - such as “the National Center for Lesbian Rights, the National Organization for Women, MoveOn.org, Human Rights Watch, Code Pink, Black Girls Rock!, the NAACP, the American Indian Movement, Emily's List, Oxfam, Greenpeace USA,” etc. – could not organize their way out of a paper bag. Most are largely dummy outfits themselves; they do not have the resources, leadership or will to organize anything of substance. Each of these organizations separately and all of them combined in fact organize nothing important – day after day, month after month, year after year.
The massive Washington and allied demonstations could only have been organized by the US political police apparatus, using the “leaders” and a host of “partner” outfits largely as fronts.
Why?
One should not confuse this kind of “popular manifestation” with the very real confrontation that currently exists among the elite themselves: between the ultra-reactionary Donald Trump forces and other – less reactionary in posture only - big-time political elements opposed to him. Opposed to Trump, but DEFINITELY not opposed to US imperialism generally. The current conflict within the American ruling top dogs is the greatest of its kind since the US Civil War (1861-65).
The US secret political police provided the enormous muscle, resources and funds to organize this event (actually multiple events) of very large magnitude. Hundreds of thousands of “part-time” agents of the US lie, spy, criminal, provocation, subversion and regime change, terror, drug-runnning, torture, war and mass murder political police state apparatus were ordered to participate in the Washington and related actions. Part-time agents of the US secret political police constituted the great bulk of the participants.
Were there also honest participants in these actions? Almost certainly.
So what was the purpose of these massive charades? To “get” Trump? Nonsense.
Trump's policies – no less than Hillary Clinton's, if this vicious war-monger had been elected – are going to be a disaster for many tens of millions of Americans. Trump's ultra-phony, reactionary and racist posture as a friend of essentially white (Caucasian) American workers and middle-class elements is a total fraud, and the real-life exposure of these lies will be felt fairly soon. A real basis for mass outrage is in the cards.
The mass demonstations in Washington and elsewhere are going nowhere. Nothing in the US has changed politically. Absolutely nothing has changed or will change as a result of these marches. There is no follow-up, no program of continued action. The US ruling class has nothing to worry about.
Meanwhile, the United States showed how “democratic” it is – a critically important propaganda ploy for domestic as well as international consumption. These marches allowed even honest non-participants to vicariously let off steam and be reassured that “all is alright” - or at least tolerable - in “democratic” America. “Things in America are bad, but at least someone is prepared to defend good.”
Moreover and no less important, these marches allowed honest potential activists to be (further) identified by the US secret political police. “Who is willing to go against the status quo?”
Such mass propaganda ploys are fairly rare events in the US – their frequency depends on circumstances. But they serve crucially important objectives of the US lie, spy, criminal, provocation, subversion and regime change, terror, drug-runnning, torture, war and mass murder political police state apparatus.
