How more “communists” prospered...
Half a century later, we can examine how the young “communists” of Massachusetts fared in life.
Did they suffer in imperialist America because of their bout of “revolutionaryism?” Judge for yourself.

The “leader” of the “Communist youth club” in the late 1960s was Alan Silverstone (and my apartment-mate for about a year):
“Allen E. Silverstone, 75, Researcher and teacher specializing in immunotoxicology of Jersey City, N.J., and Syracuse, N.Y., peacefully passed away Nov. 19, 2017... Born Sept. 20, 1942, in Chicago, Ill., he graduated from Bowen H.S. ('60), Reed College (B.S. '64), and MIT (Ph.D., '70)...” (Star-Ledger, Nov. 26, 2017)
“(Silverstone) was a Jane Coffin Childs postdoctoral fellow at Edinburgh, and completed his postdoctoral work with Nobel Prize winner David Baltimore at MIT. He researched and taught at Harvard, MIT, and Sloan-Kettering, before joining the faculty of Microbiology and Immunology at SUNY Upstate Medical University in 1985, specializing in immunotoxicology. He served as the director of the department's graduate program for over a decade, and was given the President's Award for Graduate Teaching in 1998...
“Allen was a passionate and tireless crusader for a more just society and more peaceful world. He was an early organizer of Students for a Democratic Society and the DuBois Club *. While at MIT, he was heavily involved in the anti-war movement, as well as the formation of Science for the People and the Union of Concerned Scientists.” (Dr. Allen E. Silverstone, Obituary)
Gosh, Allen obviously did not suffer FBI persecution. No problem. And he could continue being a phony “progressive activist.” Gosh again.
Silverstone's closest “comrade” was fervent young “communist” Peter Orris:
“Peter Orris (born 1945 in Los Angeles, California) is an American political activist, Medical Doctor and Professor and Chief of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital and Health Sciences System. Raised in New York City, Orris was involved with the civil rights movement from age eleven. While known contemporarily for his work in the field of medicine, Orris is also known for his work in the Civil Rights Movement.
“While studying biology at Harvard University, Orris continued to be a political activist with several organizations fighting for civil rights, including Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, the school's socialist club, Students for a Democratic Society (in which he was a leader) and the Civil Rights Coordinating Committee...

No problem or persecution there either.
Then there was another ardent young “communist,” Paul Schachter:
