Why the provocation? (2)
Three. “Russophobia.”
Fair enough.
But not a sufficient explanation.
The United States of America is a plundering and predatory nation. Not because the mass of American people steal and attack others; they are human beings like the rest of us. And many, many tens of millions of Americans are going through very hard times – a fact which is almost never reported here by the CIA-controlled Russian mass media.
The United States of America is a plundering and predatory nation because the US ruling class has become the No. 1 plunderer and predator, the No. 1 imperialist world-wide plunderer and predator - in its quest for massive wealth and power.
Russia is a major disappointment and setback for the lords of US imperialism. The destruction of the Soviet Union was the culmination of a decades-long CIA-engineered plot. “Hurrah!” Essential in this bastardly endeavor was the army of many thousands of CIA collaboratos – Хрушев, Горбачев, Ельцин, Гайдар >>> including the crucial, deceptably subversive “work” of the КГБ. Counter-revolution was the product of US imperialism, a massive CIA-collaborationist army and much of the “soviet” bourgeoisie, who sought greater wealth with a turn to capitalism and convivial association with the imperialist “masters of the universe”.
But after the dirty deed was done, a huge and insoluble contradiction emerged with the camp of the victors: the US ruling class, not content with “mere” counter-revolution and the end of the USSR, aimed to then take control of the vast resources and wealth of the former Soviet Union. And reap even more massive profits as a result. “To the main victor (US imperialism) go the main spoils.”
However, the Russian bourgeoisie - with the exception of Ходорковский-types – were and are not prepared to forfeit vast Russian oil, gas, metal and precious metal, etc. wealth to American banks and corporations. This principled position – as far as it goes – is in concert with the interests of the vast majority of Russian people (CIA agent Навальный and that nasty, lying, US-financed cotorie excluded), who do not with to become miserable, brutally exploited serfs under the fierce domination of US imperialism. After the disastrous defeatist years of Горбачев и Ельцин, the Russian government began to defend the interests of the ruling bourgeois elite - and the mass of people, as well.
Moreover, Russia has important commercial ties, trade and military interests with other countries – including with some of those of the former Soviet Union. Russia cannot help but compete on one or another level with the mercenary overlords of US imperialism. For instance, the US – through foul means or “fair” - is actively seeking to displace Russian energy commerce from a large part of Europe. Lots and lots of money, power and influence are involved.
And yet far from all is well here. The mad praise of ultra-reactionary Donald Trump; the Russian (and Chinese) abstention – instead of the necessary veto - at the UN to approve the vicious US-NATO assault on the progressive government in Libya; the Russian (and Chinese) support for the recent US-sponsored anti-Korean resolution – all point to continuing deep pro-US imperialist influence within the Russian power structure.

US imperialism forcfully and viciously reacts to any resistance to its hegemony – anywhere in the world. By anybody. While loudly proclaiming “democracy”, the US actively supports brutal dictatorial regimes, such as in Saudi Arabia. The American plunderers and predators are prepared to do “whatever is necessary” to achieve their sordid and mercenary objectives.
Massive provocations and mass propaganda lies are commonly employed to effect these aims.
Then what “to do” about Russia and its growing resistance to American dictat. Nuclear parity restrains the US from directly confronting Russia militarily – so far. Russia is not Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya etc. Yet the nuclear bombs and anti-missile rockets pointed against Russia plus the incessant and massive build-up of NATO forces right on Russia's borders show that the military “option” has not at all been discarded.
However, a direct military attack on Russia is a terrible option, fraught with disastrous potential consequences for the imperialist aggressors themselves. Therefore other approaches have to be employed.
And can be successful – if only temporarily. In Ukraine, for example, US imperialism overthrew a weak and vacillating regime to impose American control on the country. Here too, the CIA was the decisive force in the fascist coup, training, financing and using Ukrainian nazis as the shock troops. While the Ukrainian people are the primary victims of the CIA-fascist junta in Kiev, the strategic target was and is Russia: to deprive Russia of even a weak ally of sorts, and further surround the country with extremely hostile forces.
The US had every intention of converting the large and important Russian naval base in Sebastopol into another attressive NATO bastion. With the securing of the Crimea, that part of the plot has been foiled.
